Abstract ITA:
La pubblicazione presenta due casi studio tratti dalla ricerca sinologica condotta nel quadro del progetto PRIN 2022 PXTYCL M.A.R.E.: Manuscripts and Books from Asia Reaching Europe. A semantically Enhanced Digital Library Mapping Asian Books Circulation along the Silk Maritime Routes. L’analisi si concentra su due esemplari cinesi del XVII secolo conservati presso la Biblioteca Universitaria di Genova – il manoscritto De Planetis e il Tianzhu shengjiao yueyan attribuito al gesuita João Soeiro – indagati come oggetti storici dotati di una propria biografia materiale. Adottando la prospettiva della “vita sociale delle cose” e delle connected histories, lo studio ricostruisce le traiettorie di produzione, circolazione e risignificazione dei volumi dalla Cina all’Italia, evidenziando le dinamiche missionarie e culturali che ne hanno orientato l’approdo a Genova e mettendone in luce il ruolo significativo all’interno della rete di scambi transculturali tra Asia ed Europa in età moderna.
Abstract ENG:
The publication presents two case studies drawn from the sinological research conducted as part of the PRIN 2022 project PXTYCL M.A.R.E.: Manuscripts and Books from Asia Reaching Europe. A semantically Enhanced Digital Library Mapping Asian Books Circulation along the Silk Maritime Routes. The analysis focuses on two 17th-century Chinese manuscripts held at the University Library of Genoa — the De Planetis manuscript and the Tianzhu shengjiao yueyan attributed to the Jesuit João Soeiro — investigated as historical objects with their own material biography. Adopting the perspective of the “social life of things” and connected histories, the study reconstructs the trajectories of production, circulation, and re-signification of the volumes from China to Italy, highlighting the missionary and cultural dynamics that guided their arrival in Genoa and highlighting their significant role within the network of transcultural exchanges between Asia and Europe in the modern age.
